Not certain where to post this . . . Staten Island or Metro NY Area, but here goes . . .
From the FDNY Facebook page:
"Wednesday, FDNY Marine 8 responded to a boat fire in Raritan Marine, New Jersey. On approach, they saw a plume of smoke. A vessel had exploded during refueling.
When Marine 8 arrived, the vessel had already sunk and injured patients removed by the Perth Amboy Fire Department. There was a large amount of fuel on fire on top of the water, near several other boats and brush. Firefighter Richard Valera extinguished fire with a bow monitor and handline in areas that Perth Amboy FD could not reach. Firefighter Thomas Murphy expertly operated the boat in close quarters, amid debris and shallow water.
Marine 8 is one of our three seasonal boats, which not only responds to emergencies in the five boroughs, but also neighboring communities when requested."
