Units dispatched @07:50 to 40 Morris Street for a possible structure fire, 2 story PD.

168-E2 – Confirmed working fire, dispatch a 2nd Alarm along with 3 ALS Units and 2nd due RIT, 137-E3 will be going to work upon arrival @07:55

168-E2 – We have extension to exposure 3 and 4A, 2-Story PD @07:56

149-C2 – 149-C2 will be establishing command, dispatch a full 3rd Alarm and special call a tanker out of Jackson, we have multiple entrapped, extension now to exposure 2A, 2-Story PD @08:03

149-C2 – County set off the alert tones for building evacuation @08:17

149-C2 – State Police Fire Marshal on scene @10:10

*Note - 1 Firefighter injury on scene, 2 civilian burn injuries and one fatality to elderly occupant.

168-C1 stated that the elderly occupant was on the second floor of the address but a rescue was never attempted due to the heavy fire load encountered upon arrival.

Sometime the best firefighters just can't reach them. If working smoke detectors were properly installed in the house, she would have had a chance to escape before the fire overtook her. All firefighters try but we cannot walk though fire. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

I agree totally Captain. I've been there and I know you have. Talking to some of the firefighters on this scene, even if a grab was made, the end result sadly would have been the same.
