"Assigned and covering chiefs in Battalions 4, 10, 20, 22, 26, 33, 40, 45, 54, 57 were trained to carry out the planning function, and were designated T1, T2, or T3 on the Daily Chiefs Schedule. Training/qualifcations levels are T1, T2 and T3, with T3 being the highyest Level. A planning chief was formerly assigned on certain alarms and signals, together with the IMT planning vehicle. As of 2015, both are individually special called. A Planning chief may be requested by the Incident Commander for high-profile operations, operations that may extend past two days, complex operations involving other agencies, five or more 10-45 Code 1's, or for Safety Investigations.
The planning Chief supervises the Resource Unit Leader and is responsible for situation awareness, determining specialized resources, documentation, status check in and demobilization."
Granted knowing the FDNY wouldnt be surprised if things have changed.
