the one box to have when you're having more than one!
I probably had a year on the job & one 6x9 after midnight, our boss Lt. Danny Marshall, who was a FF in L108 on Seigal St got the dispatcher to relocate us out to 108. They were in their new quarters. On our way to 108, we stopped at one of the commercial bakeries in Williamsburg & picked up a couple of large boxes of donuts, then headed to one of the breweries & gave them the donuts & they gave us a couple of cases of tin “soldiers” & we put them on our running board with our roof man & headed to 108. Lt. M had us put some in their frig & when the companies returned, the Bn also, the chief saw Lt.M & proceeded to open the frig.
The Chief then told Lt. M to “take your men & leave”. One of those old stories I’ll never forget. RIP Lt. Dan Marshall.

Dan Marshall was a FF in 108 yrs back & one of the more Senior Men & quite often drove the Rig ....he was super capable driving the Stick Shift Rig (sometime hitting the Air Horn more than the Brake ) he was also super capable in the Fire Bldg....Dan was far from a braggart .& had been in the US Navy hence the nickname the Old Seadog ....( Dan at one point took a transfer to a busy QNS Truck but came back to Seigel St within a few months)... later when was leaving 108 on Promotion to LT I mistakenly thought his best yrs OTJ were going to be behind him & thought he might Retire soon after ....I was wrong....Dan became a LT in 114 & spent several yrs there excelling as a Great Boss ....after 114 Dan went on the be the CPT of LAD*43 & them spent many yrs there earning more well deserved Respect as a Boss & experienced FD Member ....three great individual segments in three Premier FDNY Working Trucks.....Dan always attended our Annual Seigel Eagles Get Togethers....the last time I saw Dan was at one of them several yrs ago....2 weeks after that we got the sad news that Dan in his role as a Flight Instructor in Small Planes was coaching a student & the plane went down killing them both.... Gone But Not Forgotten ....Continued Rest In Peace Brother. ........

Jack, Very nice tribute to Dan. It always got to me, that all the fires he went to throughout his career, he perishes in a plane crash, probably burned to death, if I remember correctly. RIP.

Chief you're right about 211. My Dad was assigned to 211 and I have that photo with all the members at that time, 1962. Paul Carosotto is in that pic with my Dad and eventually I got to work with Paul, Lt. in 233, when we both went to the new House with them.

^^^ ta Glad you have the 211 picture of your Dad... I don't know if Howie's
Son Billy has ALL the negatives from his Dad's handiwork ....I know Billy does have the R*2 & the 108 Group photos as well as some great shots of Rescues being made at the John's Bargain Store Fire on Myrtle & Franklin.....thru the late '50s / early ' 60s Howie had many photos published in the Daily News & WNYF's.... Howie's Dad owned a Camera Store & Howie was well versed in the art of both taking a good picture but also in developing & printing his own photos......Continued Rest In Peace My Friend.
