Yes agreed and correct me if I'm wrong but the chief on the box could choose to respond or monitorPull Boxes are very much in need & important ....the old "everybody has a cell phone" thing is BS .....so many instances of cell failure for a variety of reasons have occurred in the past....they have proven unreliable during emergencies when needed most .
The old Trouble Hunters as they were called...... however in more recent times it seems their Ranks were cut back...recently some work is being done in Northeast QNS to the circuits damaged back in Sept 2010 from the 2 tornados. If im not mistaken, FDNY has a maintenance division specifically for maintaining all of the pull boxes and ers boxes, as well as the direct station to dispatch com system. I forget what it's called off hand.
I used to hear the com trucks all the time on the Queens frequency as they tested and repaired the boxes in the borough.
I am RET since 2009 & not sure about today but going back there were certain Pull Boxes classified as a DRB ...Discretionary Response Box...mostly in areas with a high frequency of Class 3s / Automatic Alarms ....other than an officially designated DRB the BC responds on a Pull Box......if a DRB come in & the BC monitors he is off any other assignments until there is a disposition on the DRB.Yes agreed and correct me if I'm wrong but the chief on the box could choose to respond or monitor
