The Stamford Fire Department responded to 184 Bedford Street at 04:45 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025 for an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival at 04:50, the first due fire companies discovered smoke coming from the first floor of Chez Vous Bistro Restaurant at 188 Bedford Street. The 60ft x 80ft, 2-story commercial fire building contains multiple occupancies: Whim Womens Clothing (168 Bedford Street, 1st floor); Atelier Valoar Couture clothing (180 Bedford Street, 1st floor); Women’s Business Development Council (184 Bedford Street, 2nd floor); Chez Vous Bistro Restaurant (188 Bedford Street, 1st floor); and Deco Fine Arts and Framing (33 Spring Street, 1st floor). A working fire was declared at 04:53 as fire crews pushed hoselines into the rear of the restaurant occupancy. A large amount of fire was found in the walls and ceiling of that occupancy eventually extending to the second floor and roof, as well as the other occupancies on the first floor.

Additional alarms were added to the fire department response bringing 8 Engines, 3 Ladder Trucks, 1 Rescue, 2 Deputy Chiefs with 52 personnel plus Administrative Chiefs, Safety Officers, Mechanics and Fire Marshals. Utilities were shut to the building by Eversource Gas and Electric, and Aquarion Water. Stamford Volunteer Fire Companies backfilled their stations and Mutual Aid for Stamford City coverage was provided by Norwalk Fire Department and Greenwich Fire Department. Stamford Police Department closed Bedford Street at Broad Street until approximately 10:00 am.

Two Firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from a medical evaluation. The fire was declared under control at 06:51and is now being investigated for cause and origin by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office.
