What I remember was a full block of fire trucks probably due to it being a multi alarm fire . My friend's father tried to breakout the second window and ended up impaled on the glass with his two kids in the bedroom. Sad . My grandfather was on the FDNY but retired in 1971 from Engine 230. My grandparents lived around the corner from us and where the fire happened. We believe if my grandfather knew this fire was going on he would have tried to get them out. February 15th of 1977 my grandfather passed away. I always wanted to follow in his footsteps and be an FDNY firefighter, instead I hired in St.Peterburg Florida and did 30.5 years. I will tell you being a firefighter was the best career ever and I miss it every day. Thank you all for the information.
