Statement of Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker on Critical Injuries to Brooklyn Firefighter

Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker announced Sunday that a firefighter was critically injured in a fire at 1133 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn. The firefighter was operating at a second-alarm fire when he suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest.

The firefighter was immediately treated by FDNY EMS and rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where was treated for his critical injuries. He was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital for continued care.

The FDNY is withholding the member's name and company pending complete family notifications.

That few minutes for truck response has probably increased due to, speed bumps, 25 mph car traffic and more stop signs and traffic lights added to that area due to a population increase.

Engines aren’t effective by the same speed bumps, traffic and more stop signs? There are parts of south east Queens And many parts of Staten Island where some trucks have first due boxes and a response time closer to 8or 9 mins. And second due trucks even more. 112 , 111, 124 ,108 & 176 ALL into the “Truckless Triangle “ in under 5 mins.
