REV group breakdown

Also ridiculous customizations and configurations. Really need a more universal spec.
The problem is thats how these companies bilk the customers. Just like the “blackout packages” everyone is spending on now to make their rigs look cool for parade season.

I heard years ago that there was a push for a common spec. A bunch of people sat on a committee (I believe it may have been the NYSAFC’s) to come up with something and then no one bought it.

There is a common spec for each type of unit manufacturers offer. There's actually a government bid page where the major makers have a basic unit for a given price. And all of the makers, had very similar units.and very similar prices. And you couldn't change much on the spec. For example they'll have a government bid engine with a 1000 gom hale pump, seating for 6, 7 compartments with 1 shelf per, 3 pre connects and a hose bed for say 1500 feet of hose. That's it. ( I'm making up the specs off the top of my head but it's fairly close.) My dept looked at them several times but there so generic and so slim on options they wouldn't work for us. Price wise there maybe 350k give or take vs 600k or better, havent seen recent prices for a custom. Theres units in-between also. Sutphen at least has a semi custom unit that they can use pre built parts to keep pricing down. They have a deal with Hale where they can order pump packages that are already inside there body, and just need to be bolted in and hooked up. You can change a few things on those units like cab height, seating, compartment space etc. Those were about 100k more then the govt bid units. I'll have to see of i can find.my copy from years ago.
