3/19/26 Queens 2nd Alarm Box 1620

There is no street sign for Bert Rd. It's also not paved. Looks like a driveway.
Broad Channel, Hamilton Beach and Howard Beach, all have similar roads. Un marked, barely marked or you have to get lost to find it. I forget the names off hand but theres more then yould think.

I get that R4 currently has all of QNS but when you look at the maps this certainly looks to me like it should be an R2 box. Similar to how R5 got some boxes from R2, it seems like R2 should be taking some of R4's boxes particularly after the move Eastward.
Not happening

From what I understand, the Rescues are very territorial. With a few limited differences basically each rescue covers their Boro. Doesn't matter if 1 is already on the road or 10 minutes closer.

Respectfully, I see where you're both coming from, but neither of these are good answers. At some point, someone, maybe an FF, will urgently need help in Broad Channel - how can the FD defend not sending the closest available resources? No reason R2 couldn't respond here among the other 'few limited differences', i.e. R5 to South BK, R3 to Harlem, etc, there's already a precedent

Didn't say it was right, and I've had this conversation with people i worked with.( theres more then a few sogs in my old dept with my name associated with it for similar things) People dont care what the number is on the side of the truck, the name or slogan or anything else. All they care about is someone showing up to deal with the problem.
There was a call not too long ago where 4 was in Manhattan coming back thru the tunnels and R2 was assigned a Queens box. 2 had them beat all day. R4. Our boro our call. R2 went 10-8.

And R4 already has Brooklyn boxes in Greenpoint

I drove R*2 for 9 yrs Responding both from Carlton Ave & from Bergen St. if both 2 & 4 or 2 & 1 were to both Respond from their respective Qtrs. i could tell you who would normally arrive first at many locations such as the WTC...JFK...the Rockaway Peninsula etc. ( & not the current assigned order) however the current assignments are more or less preset.....the ideal scenario would be if a vehicle locator system was used pinpointing Units & when a Run came in it would assign the closest Unit taking into account not the normal FH location but where the Unit actually was in real time ......i don't think that idea is so far fetched ....i would think it could be in a system to be done automatically with a provision to have it verified / okayed by the CO the same as done now deciding at the time whether to send a Relocater to a Fire etc..... everybody wants to go to everything but some time the distance disparity in real time can be great depending on the last assignment / actual location.

The system exists. Where i used to work, we had AVLs in every rig for that reason. It was used mostly, by the ambulances. The downside is, that they were constantly getting stuck in other areas. For hours on end. But using it for fire calls, especially multiples that go quick it can be very invaluable.
