3/19/26 Brooklyn 3rd Alarm Box 2492

There is a post on here regarding 2nd Sections. I just give my 2 cents because someone had mentioned Watkins Street and I wanted to clarify what transpired during the war years from what I remember.

Second sections

During the War Years how were the second sections of Ladder companies, such as Ladder 26, dispatched? Both respond on a job in their still area or did they alternate.

Either the 12th or the 20th, its overdue.

I believe Division 12 moved to Engine 242 when Division 8 was disbanded. When Division 8 was re-established in the early '90s, Division 12 moved to Engine 330/Ladder 172 where it was eventually disbanded in the mid '90s.
 
Thanks for the good information. I when I was assigned, in Engine 26 the in the 7th Battalion, Div. 3 with D.C. Vincent Dunn as the Div, 3 Commander. Then E-26 was in Div., 2 for a short while, also Manhattan Central Fire Command. When I retired in 2000 E-26 was in Batt. 7, Division 1, where D.C. Pete Hayden was the Div. 1 Commander. Chief Pete Hayden was always a real gentleman and was the former Chief of Department of the FDNY. In all of this I lost track of when Div. 12 was closed. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

This is correct, Division 12 moved to 330 about a year after division 8 was reorganized, and was disbanded in 1995 before being reopened for a 3 month duration just 4 days later.

Divisions have only ever gone up to 17.

In 1973 the fdny had 16 Divisions.

Division 1 - Southern Manhattan (South of 12th roughly)
Division 3 - Central Manhattan (North of 12th & South of 72nd)
Division 4 - Central park West/East Sides (North of 72nd & up to Manhattanville and east harlem)
Division 5 - Northern Manhattan (East Harlemn & West Harlem up to inwood)
Division 6 - Southern Bronx
Division 7 - Western bronx up to Riverdale & North of Yankee Stadium
Division 8 - Richmond
Division 9 - Eastern bronx, mostly east of the Bronx River Parkway
Division 10 - Wesern Brooklyn (North Bay ridge & Borough Park up into Downtown Brooklyn)
Division 11 - Northern Brooklyn (North of roughly Myrtle Avenue)
Division 12 - South/Central Brooklyn (Coney Island and South bayridge into Flatbush and Bergen beach)
Division 13 - South West Queens (Rockaways into Jamaica and Forest Hills)
Division 14 - North West Queens
Division 15 - East Brooklyn (East Flatbush into Cypress Hills and East New York)
Division 16 - Eastern Queens
Division 17 - North/Central brooklyn (Crown Heights up into Bushwick)

Division 2 was last located (ignoring the 1995 renumbering) near Union Square Garden before being disbanded in 1956
