On August 18, 2026, at approximately 8:35 a.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for a residential structure fire in the 0 block of Gibson Road. The caller noted that they could see smoke visible from Mercury Boulevard. Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue (HDFR) units were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 8:38 a.m. While crews were being enroute, dispatchers spoke to the homeowner who advised that all occupants were out of the residence.
Upon arrival, HDFR crews found a single story residential structure with smoke showing. The call was marked a working incident at approximately 8:39 a.m. Crews began an aggressive fire attack and search. The fire was knocked down at approximately 8:44 a.m. and the fire was marked out shortly thereafter at approximately 8:57 a.m.
No one was injured in the fire. Several animals were rescued by HDFR personnel and were assisted with reunification by the Hampton Animal Rescue Team and neighbors. The American Red Cross is assisting three occupants who were displaced as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is under investigation with the Fire Marshal’s office.
