It was at least 5 miles from Story Ave. for TL54 2nd Due.

I'll bet EMS has tougher runs then that.

Last week in Houston...1400hrs in the afternoon...school day....102 degrees out...HFD had 87 active incidents in progress...couple of building fires winding down, 8-10 still alarms; everything else EMS.

The most recent on the list was an EMS call in far south Houston. The assignment was Ambulance 47...couple of miles north and Medic 65 in Huffman (NE Houston)- thirty-eight (38) miles across the fourth largest city in the US.

Note: IN HFD, engine companies, ladder companies, and ARFF units (on the airport property) routinely take in ems calls by themselves.
In HFD, every uniform member is an EMT or Paramedic.

Saw this at Ripley's "Believe it or not" - E72 - (10) 1st due All Hands so far in 2026 - better believe it!

E72 is routinely at boxes alone for minutes if TL50 is unavailable.

TL50, E64 and E96 were all out on other boxes when this run came over.

I remember my Aunt and Uncle used to live in Locust Point in a little postage stamp bungalow (still there at 4205 East 177 St) in the mid 1950’s right near where they built the Throgs Neck Bridge long before E72 was up on Tremont Avenue - long runs for E89,64 and L50,47 back then. If I remember correctly the Edgewater Park Vollies would often show up first at calls down by the former Bronx Beach Club etc
