    VINTAGE FDNY WAR YEAR LIDS

LOL, in many cases the lid tells a lot about the wearer for sure ... and not in the way the wearer intended it to be told. Keep the great stories coming brother, I've enjoyed each one.

FDNY and NYC Firehouses and Fire Companies - 2nd Section

I was working in 33 Truck for the job at 183 St. and Jerome Av. Earlier in the evening, we had a mattress fire in an apartment building. When we returned to the street, we found that the second due truck apparently had some difficulty stopping their rig, resulting in the tip of their aerial...

    GLORY DAYS

I was good friends with Ira and Sandy growing up in Brooklyn. Sandy's father and my father worked together in L101. I dispatched at Vollaro's on weekends for a while. Ira and I were in the same proby class. Sandy came on the job about a year after us.

FF John J. Downing Got Tommy Gambino's seat in 163 Truck when Tommy came over to R3. I remember Tommy telling me that if he hadn't transferred he would have been the chauffeur working in 163 at The father's Day Fire. Instead, Tommy was murdered on 9/11/2001 while working in his new assignment at R3.

    ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

My dad and Chief Archbold were both assigned to the 38th Battalion. On weekends, if I was riding with my dad on his day tours, I would stay over on Saturday 6x9 and ride with Chief Archbold. He was a really good guy as well as chief officer. I think he was still in the 38 when I was assigned to...

FDNY and NYC Firehouses and Fire Companies - 2nd Section

Dad was a BC in the 38th from '68 - '77. Shortly after they moved to St. John's Pl. he was promoted to Provisional DC as there was no list in place. He held that rank until he passed away in April of '78. I spent a lot of time at 1472 Bergen St. between '68 and '77 where I rode with the...

"69 METS", good to hear from you. I hope things are okay after being hit with that Hurricane. If we can help, and you, or the other Brothers down there need anything, let us know. I can tell you that when I was down there, "you guys were good to me'. I would also like to pass on a story that...

FDNY Chief Officer Cars and Vehicles

It was a gasoline engine, Chief. Also, for some reason, the shops mounted the siren speaker in the engine compartment which muffled the sound significantly.
