Again, these Batt FFs have to be educated. Exp. 4 was NOT an alley. It was a similar detached. Anything less than 30 ft. is considered an exposure. If the Alley was Exp.4 then the fire communicated past #4 to 4A. Somone please write a chief's Aide manual and putt the communications manual as...
You're kidding, right?
296 was on 18th Ave in College Point.
272 was on 38th Ave off Prince Street. Maybe if 272 was at the Rock; but then, 273 would have been next up.!
Realistically, Engines should be 20 on average. Officers aren't counted in manpower since they are supervisory personnel; same with ladder officers. (unless you're counting total bodies)
Just remember in the good times when we had 5 (somertimes 6) man engines, you could use All Hands with 3 engines, and have 3 lines stretched and operating. Telling the dispatcher that you had a heavy fire condition meant you had 3 stretched and operating. Medium was 2 lines. Some people today...
I would have thought 229 would have been 3rd due., only 1.5 miles in with 146.
I don't recall hearing that in 38 years, unless it's a fairly new scientific breakthrough. I'm just trying to be objective, based upon what I see in the video and the multiple windows already taken on the 2nd floor...
Old adage - "Put the wet stuff on the red stuff."
That handline on exp. 3 roof was doing nothing. Also, who was supervising the deck gun operating from E237? In every shot, it wasn't moving, and there was no fire to be seen in the window they were aiming at. Where are and what happened to...
I'm just wondering how they were "10-84," were on our frequency when they are starting to encrypt their own.; and knew to tell MD that victims were on the "three-four side"?
Initial report this morning - three bodies recovered. One apparent adult female, one child. Third torso was with a rifle, presumed to be the shooter who was the brother-in-law of the family living there. Two adults and three children, reported to be between 10 and 15.
Totally agree; but in listening to the radio for the past few months, it's apparent that there are many "one day wonders" driving chiefs. From what I've heard, there is supposedly a shortage of permanent battalion firefighters. These fill-ins are doing the best they can in relation to their...
The Batt. aide, either through his own untrained initiative, or the directions of the chief - gives 3 exposures as alleys?
EXP. 2 - a 2 story 20 x50 dwelling separated by a 6 ft driveway
EXP. 4 - Elder Ave. Grocery, part of a 1 story 100x100 taxpayer separated by a 5 ft. alleyway.
The PD's on...
40 years ago, the amount of units for this operation would be considered obscene
It seems that the old strategy and tactics that were written, improved upon and successfully implemented in the past are being suspended too early on in favor of going with T/Ls in an exterior operation...
