I work on those cell towers. White and red are easier for aircraft to see during day and night respectively. Fun fact, those light housings are about 6 feet tall!
If you want a real weird one, Pittsburgh has a city EMS service that is a separate entity from the Fire Bureau. They have 2 heavy rescues that the Fire Bureau doesn’t have and they’ve been getting into some pretty hefty jurisdiction issues with each other.
I don’t think it’s used too much, primarily because I don’t think the FDNY does much in the way of foam operations anymore, at least not one that would require anymore than a regular foam truck (I.e FM-167) can carry.
