    Canada Wildfires/Smoke Conditions 6/6/23

What rock are they living under? my dept just organized a bunch of guys to head out tomorrow morning to back fill Yellowhead County AB as they have evacuated a lot of residents and they are busy with the multiple fires in the county, some threatening towns. We are back filling their station...

    FDNY assistance to Canada

Brush fires are different than what is burning here. These are fires being fought with airplanes. Yes there are hotspot and mop up activities but there are a lot of FF and brush apparatus that are closer than FDNY. Canada uses ICS and most of these are being handled at the Provincial level with...

    FDNY assistance to Canada

Not sure if there is any real assistance FDNY can provide, are their members trained in forest firefighting? The dept I work for is a major urban dept for our area (definitely not the size of FDNY but bigger then Buffalo) and we don't go into the bush to help with these fires. We go back fill...

    Special Units Relocating

I believe there was a retired staff chief on the GSE podcast who was on scene very early to the downed plane (can’t remember his rank at that time) but I seem to remember him stating he just went 10-8 from another job in Manhattan when the plane box came in. If memory serves me right his name...

    Canada Wildfires/Smoke Conditions 6/6/23

I’m from Alberta where some of this smoke is coming from. It’s a very early start to our wildfire season and I think it’s going to be a long summer. There is also a very major fire in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area, in our maritimes, our east coast. Sorry

Charts - Growing Impact of FDNY CFR Runs on Engine Companies

The problem is lots of callers know the “key-words” to upgrade their call.

Charts - Growing Impact of FDNY CFR Runs on Engine Companies

I should clarify with Lebby’s post and in regard to my post above that our Pumps only respond to Delta and Echo medicals unless specially requested.

Charts - Growing Impact of FDNY CFR Runs on Engine Companies

Interesting data. But for sure not unique to FDNY. On my department in Alberta Canada we added a pump (engine) to our downtown station because pump 1 was doing 5000 runs a year. Last year Pump 1 and Pump1A both did over 5000

    Across the River in NJ

Thanks for the reply. I do T know a ton about NJ other than looking at a map. Was curious with my question because I don’t see any units from Newark and they seem closer then something like Paterson, same with Hackensack. Maybe I’m wrong though

    Difference between different alarms

I thought sometime in the last year or two “normally assigned rescue and squad” was changed and now a rescue and squad are always assigned even if they are not the “normally assigned”. I would have read this info somewhere on this site

City of Pittsburgh Fire and EMS Bureaus

Common in Canada for EMS to be a stand alone service. Not common for EMS to do the special operations instead of the FD.

City of Pittsburgh Fire and EMS Bureaus

I’m not sure it works that well. I’ve seen news stories about the fire union wanting these services for the FD. Not sure on size comparison but I believe New Orleans EMS is a stand alone agency with extrication responsibility

    3/20/23 Queens 3rd Alarm Box 5007

I know some of the staff chiefs take their turn as city-wide commander or some respond on 4th alarms I understand but what do the people in the other “cars” do at an event like this. Like the Deputy Director of Fire Alarm or Director of Technical Services or Supervisor of Mechanics as I’d assume...
