Yep - they must have rewritten the Communications manual. No more "Transmit a ---------" Now it's "Make it a second" or "Give it a third"

Totally agree; but in listening to the radio for the past few months, it's apparent that there are many "one day wonders" driving chiefs. From what I've heard, there is supposedly a shortage of permanent battalion firefighters. These fill-ins are doing the best they can in relation to their...

When is the last time we ever saw the fire communicate to a 5 ft alley or driveway? Asking for friend.

The Batt. aide, either through his own untrained initiative, or the directions of the chief - gives 3 exposures as alleys? EXP. 2 - a 2 story 20 x50 dwelling separated by a 6 ft driveway EXP. 4 - Elder Ave. Grocery, part of a 1 story 100x100 taxpayer separated by a 5 ft. alleyway. The PD's on...

40 years ago, the amount of units for this operation would be considered obscene  It seems that the old strategy and tactics that were written, improved upon and successfully implemented in the past are being suspended too early on in favor of going with T/Ls in an exterior operation...

I believe the blue screen on the DD's console in PSAC still goes up to 10 alarms for each box . Just push one button......

I'm still trying to figure out how, after the 3rd alarm was transmitted, with all the engines already on the scene there were only three lines stretched and operating?? I remember when the row frames bulletin first came out in the late 70's the 4th line usually went to the rear. It just seems...

Unfortunately there's no actual timeline listed on this operation. I'm just hoping that recovering the Mayday member was enabled by either the first or the second fast truck. If not, this only illustrates the danger of removing a fast truck to use in the operation before the replacement arrives...

Just to clarify, I've always been a proponent of "Rule #2" on all types of social media; even admonished some buffs for videoing on scene fire and accident victims. My units were 1st due at this operation; I presumed but should have noted to forward that info. to me in a private message, not...

Well, not so much a rule of thumb. In NYC, unless they changed the codes, buildings 75' or greater in height require a standpipe system, not the number of stories. I've had buildings in the So. Bronx that were 7 stories, but were just inches below the 75' mark from grade level. They were a...

Signal 652 About Radio Interference and Switching Frequencies

NYPD Freq's are only about 5 mHz above ours; yet, there was no problems with any of the PD division transmissions in Queens - unless it has to do with there's being a simplex system, and we use a duplex/rebroadcast system.

Signal 652 About Radio Interference and Switching Frequencies

What was peculiar in Queens, you could hear clearly a field unit calling the Queens CO; but once the carrier was turned on, you lost the field unit and only heard the console acknowledging. Someone said that theyb may be testing the encrypting of transmissions. The only problem with that would...
