Nashville,TN Fire Department Adds 37 New Firefighters

Seems like they are pretty lightly manned, I'm assuming that the officers plus the one firefighter do the fire attack leaving the chauffeur at the pump? I realize that you get faster response times with more companies with less manning but you end up having a lot of equipment parked and not...

Along the same line higher population density normally means more high-rise buildings which also increases the need for truck companies.

    4/6/21 Queens 8th Alarm Box 7864

I just looked up LA County and according to Wikipedia they have about 2800 employees. They work 3 shifts so at any given time they have about 900 firefighters on duty. Also, I'm not sure if having so many chief officers and staff available to respond if necessarily a good thing in many cases.

Do you think that many have that many firefighters on duty at one time? I'm betting it's considerably less than that. I was thinking that Atlanta would have that many but their total staffing is only about 1200., Miami is only 2700, Boston 1500, Dallas 2000... The only departments I found with...

    New Seagraves

My guess would be that they found they weren't being used so they omitted them from the bid specifications.

    New Seagrave Contracts

That's a possibility but for a contract as big as this 1 was you would think that making a modification to their design wouldn't be that big of deal for a large quantity of trucks. Obviously it would be a major issue for a very small order.

    New Seagrave Contracts

I wonder that myself, actually, many companies will rebid a contract if there is only one bidder. With only one bidder the bidder is basically setting whatever price they want for an item.

    New Seagrave Contracts

It will be interesting to see if Seagrave bids on the rescues, they never have in the past. Based on past experience I'm guessing that the rescue companies would like Pierce to bid based on the one rescue that was provided by them previously however they have never bid on any FDNY apparatus...

    New Seagrave Contracts

They won't keep all of the units going OOS as spares, they were only keep the better ones. The others will be sold off which is what happens every time equipment is replaced.

03/25/21 ~ BRAND NEW 2020 FDNY RESCUE 2 NOW IN SERVICE.

Do all of the rescues have Q2B sirens or that something the company added? I know that FDNY did not specify them for engines and ladders which receive Q2E sirens.

    New Seagrave Contracts

All those costs per unit seem low, I agree with your estimate for the TLs, last I heard engines were almost $600,000 so the cost per unit looks wrong for them also. I haven't seen a price for a RM recently but based on the service history I could definitely see them replacing all of the existing...

    New Seagrave Contracts

Any idea how many rear moments the contract is for? I'm guessing it's over 50. Also, how many TLs & Engines?

    New Tillers

Thanks for the information, I understand how some of those items could exclude some manufacturers, especially the spare parts considering something for the FDNY are custom that used for other apparatus. Obviously, the service in a requirement doesn't exist and wouldn't be practical for small...

    New Tillers

I know that most fire department have pretty strict specifications etc., what in the FDNY ones make them unique? It would seem like all the major department searches FDNY, FDLA, Chicago, Atlanta etc. would all have about the same degree of strict terms in their contract.

    New Tillers

Sounds like you have a chief or other person in power that likes TLs and is pushing them. That seems to be the only place in the nation adding additional tillers. I know many places are keeping them but I don't love any other ones that are adding additional ones. Of course LA has quite a few of...

    New Tillers

I know a lot of departments are actually going to more TLs because of the added compartment space. I know at least 3 departments in this area (Louisville Kentucky) have gone from RM to TL for this reason.
