Today is the 125th anniversary of the largest natural disaster in United States history- the unnamed hurricane that struck Galveston on September 8th, 1900. It destroyed the city killing an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 citizens. In the aftermath, the port was moved 50-odd miles inland creating the...
Gamewell had a paper tape register, both in the fire alarm office and in the firehouse. Gamewell also had a geared clock that automatically time stamped the tape between the receiver punch and the take-up reel. These were used in the office. I've got one. It's so heavy I can barely pick it up...
Means Brooklyn dispatchers are looking at a minimum of at least (assuming succession, non-interfering type) five boxes coming in on five different box circuits at the same exact time. You try counting them. That On The Platform post has a picture of several circuits transmitting. It's not the...
Did they take their gun belts off first?

From my post On The Platform Brooklyn CO might explain how 114 could be answering East Harlem boxes. The Manhattan CO telegraph register is directly behind the dispatch area (running cards, prehistoric status board, Morse Key, bell tower). Maybe the dispatchers standing there thought they were...
As predicted; it took four counties to provide relocators into the city.
It's been a long fall for a classic department. In the old days, BCFD could (and did) handle simultaneous fifth alarm jobs without breaking into a sweat.
Corrections: Harford County...Baltimore County doesn't have a Truck...
Like a nice summer evening in the South Bronx
Note: Engine 30, 21, 20, and 35 are closer than companies dispatched. Seems like Trucks 16 and 18 should be on the first or second alarm.
From Engine 50 to Engine 46
Engine 43 to Engine 57 Looks like they got the City emptied
All they've got for relocations will be outside the city.
Did that Battalion Chief actually park the red car in the collapse zone?
5,000 degree inferno!
Eight inches shorter!
Mensa level smart
Eh, maybe some alcohol??
Having delt with personal injury lawyers for decades AND been up Tri City Beach Road to Beach City, I can easily see how the ancient Greeks found entertainment in tragedy.
It seems that a CAD box should be defined as a contiguous geographic area that has the same "running assignment" up to however many alarm levels are desired. The next issue is if you want to identify this box by the nearest fire house or nearest engine company.
If BCFD is using the nearest...

This is a fairly nice neighborhood. not a third world country. Obviously no smoke/CO detectors. Why would they need burglar bars, much less bars on the second...
