As a Fire Marshal that worked that day, our tour started at 0500 hours, I was in the kitchen in the base in Fort Totten, when a gust of wind hit some time between 5-6 AM. It was more severe than I was normally accustomed to. After the 4 5's were transmitted my Squad was ordered to the morgue in...

12/10/23 box 1622 Pin with possible ejection

When 176 was in the Tin House we responded to Utica and Union passing up Eastern Pkwy and Utica. Reasoning back then was they wanted a Tower Ladder (111) on Eastern Pkwy.. Most of those Buildings on the Pkwy. were H type buildings.

12/10/23 box 1622 Pin with possible ejection

Cross Bay Blvd. years ago was the go to place for drag racing. High speed would probably be the reason for such a horrific accident.

1993 Long Island Rail Road shooting.

I knew Larry very well from his days in 120. It was always fun working with him and the other superstars there. My daughter commuted on the LIRR 5 days a week and we were sitting on pins and needles till she actually showed up home. As a parent it was sheer torture. By the way my Daughters...

    12/6/23 Brooklyn 10-75 Box 834

When I first read the location , I never heard of Covert St. & Hudson Blvd. , especially after responding to that box for 24 years. I took out my Hagstrom Street Atlas and sure enough no Hudson Blvd.. I then reread your post and now I realized Hudson Blvd. became Covert St.. But with all the...

12/2/23 No More 5 Man Engines

The Fire Dept. is like an insurance policy, it's nice to know it's there but hopefully you never have to use it. And only when you need them is when you care about it. Another thing we forget with the amount of emt runs Engines are doing, it continues to stress the response of other companies to...

12/2/23 No More 5 Man Engines

We say 4 man engine but only 3 guys are stretching the line. If MPO needs help to hook up now just 2 guys stretching. So maybe the people in the City will vote the right people in the next election. Probably see more line of duty injuries with less help on the line. Lines in place extinguish the...

NYC has plans to increase city!

15 garages will make no impact on a housing shortage. Unless you can cram 100 illegals in one.

    ZIPPO

When I was in the service, 64-68, Zippo was the lighter of choice with a lifetime guarantee. I believe only $2.00 in the BX and no tax. I still have mine from my Service days and used it till I quit smoking in 76. A little beat up and the numbers inside are not readable from refilling it by...

On Nov. 24, 1972 8 other companies were disbanded. It wasn't like FDNY was slowing down, because runs and workers continued to increase in numbers. We were in between 120 & 123 and doing 5000 runs each. We were only 4 blocks from either company.
