    3/19/24 Brooklyn Collapse Box 790

Does L 102 have specialized equipment? There are several trucks that would normally be assigned before them.

    CHECK & SECURE COMPARTMENT DOORS.

I was the chauffeur driving a brand new lime green Mack rig. We were on building inspection or hydrant inspection and the compartment door swung open on a turn and scratched a car. We couldn’t blame the truck because we were the only apparatus in the area that was green. We had been told that...

2/28/24 Brooklyn All Hands Box 677

Ladder 102 should be in the mix.

12/22/23 Brooklyn All Hands Box 1892

I would think that Ladders 101 and 118 run together all the way down the other end of Atlantic Ave at the water.

MFD1530 on Ebay has plenty of New Jersey apparatus photos from all over the state.

    History of the Squad Co's?

What about Squads 21 and 22 from WW2? They preceded the squads from the 50s.

8/13/23 Brooklyn All Hands Box 0776

Ladder 112 responded to boxes almost to Johnson Ave. and at one time went as far as Metropolitan and Scott Aves. They also responded as far as Sumner and Putman Aves. They probably picked up the most boxes.

Pre-connect hose on FDNY engine companies

In the mid seventies the shops ran a pipe from one of the discharges on the officers side pump panel into the compartment in front of the rear wheel. We had 3 or 4 lengths of hose connected but used it rarely. The also gave us several lengths of 4 1/2" super pumper hose in place of 3 1/2" hose...

    ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

Charlie transferred into L 112 and worked there with his father until the layoffs. There were also two brothers in the truck around that time.

    4/3/23 Queens 10-75 Box 6499

I would think that we will hear from Capt784 on the subject of Manhattan traffic. He might have spent more time to reach the corner of 26 Engine than the time it takes to some of the longer runs in the outer boros.

Doesn't PSE&G still supply electricity to the Rockaways?

    New Rearmount order

The 1981 green Mack's were limited to about 42 MPH. It was embarrassing to drive them on a highway.

    Housewatch areas

An easy way to get your company officer pissed off at you was to have a dirty house watch or to greet certain Chiefs disrespectfully (no salute etc.) Many Chiefs were not looking for trouble and if things went well when they came through the door, they would assemble the men, take a mark in the...

    Housewatch areas

There was one house that had 2 desks on the apparatus floor without a wall between them,298 and 299 using one, 275 and 127 using the other. The Patrol had housewatches but the ma n on house watch in numbers 1 and 3 remained in quarters to record alarms for insurance purpose. Everyone responded...

    Housewatch areas

The worst part of house watch was when you were in the cellar at 4 AM stoking the coal furnace and a response came over the bells or even worse, three rings on the telephone and you were nowhere near it.

    11/3/22 Bronx 2nd Alarm Box 3080

I remember a job on Jefferson Ave. in Bushwick years ago. There was one line stretched and the company was making a push on reports of residents trapped. I was the chauffeur and was busy getting additional lines into operation when a car, which was parked well closer than the legal 15 feet from...

    "Lemon" Equipment Assignments

Prior to the mid seventies the new apparatus was given to the busiest units and their used rigs were passed down to the slower units. I think that all units in the city now receive new apparatus that is replaced in about 10 years, in accordance with the officers union contract.
