US Constellation Fire 12-19-1960: WNYF Article from 1961

My grandfather was a Captain with the Eastchester FD in Westchester County. He responded along with members from the Eastchester FD down to the USS Constellation for the mutual aid request for SCBA's. Sadly, he passed away 2 years later in 1962 due to cancer. Nowadays, it would have been a LODD...

Eric Adams Indicted on Federal Corruption Charges

So the FDNY was "pressured" to push through the permits yet no names mentioned as to who was pressured. Interesting that Kavanaugh's phone wasn't seized considering she seemed to be the only major department head who was never mentioned in the investigation (NYPD and BOE both involved). I guess...

    Baltimore MD 6th Alarm 9/22/24

2 Truck was disbanded back around 2000. I used to love to stop in there to grab a t-shirt during Firehouse Expo. That was also a great week to be in Baltimore.

Fleet Friday FDNY SPECIAL UNIT COMPARTMENTS

Any plans for the Squads to have fully stocked spares like the Rescue's do? Seems like 1 spare Squad isn't really enough.

    Ferrara repair facility

I think it closed not too long after they lost the aerial contracts to Seagrave. I'm pretty sure it only existed for warranty service for the FDNY contracts. The new regional dealer opened a facility on Long Island a while back so maybe they handle the FDNY work now.

Pierce doesn’t make a stainless steel cab which is a sticking point for the FDNY. They only offer stainless bodies. Ferrara and KME both basically designed cabs specifically for the FDNY.

Any reason why they call it Squad 800 and don't use the changeable numbers like they do on the spare engines and trucks instead?

    Collapse Rescue

The quoted price seems incredibly high. The average cost for a heavy rescue is probably between $1.5 and $2 million right now. Even with how detailed FDNY's specs are, I couldn't see a rescue costing more than an Aerialscope. Maybe the price also includes all new equipment but unless that's...

Interesting that they spec’d the L9 motor when Cummins is replacing it with a 10 liter by 2027. Most manufacturers stopped taking orders for them because they’re so far behind that a rig ordered now will be built with the new 10 liter. Then again maybe thats the reason for a commercial chassis...
