    GLORY DAYS VIGNETTES

A FIREHOUSE CHRISTMAS STORY Days leading up to the Annual Firehouse Family Christmas Party was exciting. “All hands” scrubbed down the firehouse from top to bottom, even going as far as power washing the old diesel exhaust crud from the walls and swabbing the grime off the apparatus floor. The...

HISTORY OF 9/11 MEDAL and RIBBON

If you see any New York City firefighters wearing their navy blue dress uniforms, you may be able to tell where they were on September 11th, 2001. In 2003 Chief Peter Hayden and Chief Joe Pfeifer collaborated on designing a campaign commemorative decoration which was awarded to FDNY firefighters...

    ENGINE CO. 5 1958 MACK

Lt. TK (L 112) First fire company when he was hired. E 5 trivia; members of E 5 noticed memebers of NYPD Emergency Truck 5 wearing collar brass with E 5. They started to wear the same collar brass and lo and behold, it started the trend in FDNY of companies wearing company #brass.

    WINTER OPERATIONS

    BOOK; RESCUE SQUAD

Today the Author Larry Ferazani of Cambridge Ma passed away. In 1974 his book was a runner up to Dennis Smiths Book Report from E 82. His writing style was similar to Dennis, he was able to put you in the back of the Rescue Squad from Cambridge Mass. A fun and good read.

    THROWBACK THURSDAY

Hello Troops, I thought I might add a new feature to the History thread. Before the "War Years" as we came to know it, NYC and the boro's had a unique style in the 60's. Before the raging fires, the calm before the storm, many parts of the City began to exhibit the profound grittiness that made...
