I've noticed some truck companies have a star of life decal on one of their doors. I'm guessing this isn't standard? Is the equipment procured by the company and more so just first aid or along the lines of the engine’s CFR gear?

Has anyone watched LA Fire & Rescue on NBC? Great little 8 episode series that wrapped up this week. My wife even liked the show and was amazed to learn all that the fire service does.

Can someone tell me the difference in Reserve units vs Spare units and what their roles are? Which get used first (i.e. which replaces a front line unit when it's down)? I have noticed some houses have reserves assigned to them with number markings on them, so where do the spares live?
