In the good old days the tiller man was out in the open. I remember my father wearing a wool cap To keep warm. I’m sure the new rigs have heaters. Enjoy the ride, you’ll going to miss it some day. I know I do.
I was in High School then, and remember seeing all the cop’s and firefighters working those jobs and I wanted to be one of them. 8 years later I became one of them, what a ride. My father retired from the FDNY in 1960. Merry Christmas Tom and everyone else who reads this.
You’re right Tony, it does take a tower longer but the bucket can reach multiple windows and floors for removal if necessary. I worked in both and each has its pluses and minuses. They make for a great fire department.
When I got promoted I was assigned to the 34, I went to PS34, then to PS 134, my house number is 34, my son’s old house was 134, his new # is 134. Maybe I should play that #
