Makes sense. Traditional assignments did not pull E's 62,63,38 south of Gun Hill Road together. Leaves Williamsbridge/Wakefield uncovered. Doubt 81 makes it in there before 88 and 75. New system a little flaky.
E-81 has always been 3rd or 4th due on the north side of mosholu parkway in this area, on this particular job E-79 was out at the rock and E-81 was assigned 3rd due and actually arrived 2nd due at this fire. E-48 was in the far southern area of their area when box was sent out. Also the new system as stated by 3511 is not being used in the Bronx it is on Hold.
Thank you Mac, I was about to say that there is no way 88 can get in there before 81. 75 and 81 could possibly get in there the same time depending on which way 75 goes.
E75 2.12 miles via Morris Ave, east on Fordham Rd, North on Webster to 204th st
2.46 miles via Concourse to 200th St, east to Bainbridge, north to 204th St
E81 2.62 miles via Bailey, east on Van Cortland Park S, Mosholu Pkwy to Bainbridge, to 204th St
E88 2.00 miles via Third Ave, north on Webster to 204th St
Not to get into a debate here but E-81 responded up and around reservoir not via the route you seem to think we used, not sure of the mileage but going north on bailey then east up hill on vancortlandt pk south to reach mosholu is longer than using sedgwick around reservoir, also using mosholu parkway quickens response.
This is just an interesting discussion as to how companies are assigned.
You are correct, using Sedgewick Ave is shorter (2.4. miles vs 2.6) but is considered longer in time due to the turns, narrower streets, and the winding around.
And that route is still longer than 88 and 75. The claim that "no way" 88 can get in there before 81 is just not true. 88 has virtually a straight run with the only choke point at Fordham and Webster. That's why they were traditionally assigned as so. Ditto 75 up the Concourse.
The claim was also made that 81 "always" responded to this area 4th due and that is simply not the case. In fact, until the War years 81 was a third alarm company to most of Norwood.
