What's the significance of announcing "peaked roof PD" all the time? About 99% of P/D's have peaked roofs.

In Queens there's a fairly healthy mix of flat and peaked roof MDs and PDs.  Most likely making the announcement just to be on the safe side and letting other companies know before they arrive what they'll be dealing with.

Also lets you know that you are going to take a beating on the fire floor b/c there will be no hole cut in the roof!  Does anyone know why the FDNY elects not to cut peaked roofs?

its surprising that FDNY doesnt... i know chicago makes the roof on all fires that they can. i have seen fire fighters straddling roof tops and sliding along chopping holes. real dangerous up there
