From the FDNY Facebook page:

"FDNY units responded to a report of a punctured gas main on Friday morning near 179th Place and Hillside Avenue in Queens.
"Shortly before 9 a.m., we got a call for a ruptured gas main. Units arrived within four minutes and, on arrival, they found a six-inch high-pressure main that was punctured during construction. There was a heavy odor of gas throughout the area. When units got here, they started searching all the surrounding buildings. All were negative—no gas readings, no casualties," Deputy Chief Robert Sputh said at the scene.
A public school in the area was initially ordered to shelter in place, but as wind conditions changed, the FDNY evacuated the school. In total, 1,200 students and 50 staff members were evacuated. More than 100 #FDNY members responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported, and the students and staff were relocated to another school in the area."
