10/16/10 -- Jersey City,NJ Third Alarm Junkyard Fire

Late last night JCFD and other Dept's operated at a large junkyard fire on Linden Ave East -- The Building Tire Recycling Plant-- has resulted in Multiple calls into FDNY from Brooklyn and Queens reporting smoke and odor of smoke.  JCFD Marine 1 in service at this one.
Around 2300 hrs.

Marine 1 did not operate, nor were they requested. However, Brooklyn got flooded with calls for several hours reporting smoke odors in the street.

Multiple calls is an under statement, Queens & Brooklyn were doing constant runs for smoke in the area, odor of smoke for about 5 hours straight. When the smoke first rolled in, in the BC42/BC40 area there was about 8 boxes in 15 minutes all 10-33s. Even the Rockaways got busy with smoke calls.

  Around 12:30AM driving on the Belt Pkwy between Flatbush/Marine Pkwy & the Verrazano Bridge and the smell of burning rubber & plastic was so strong my wife wanted to stop thinking our car was burning.
