This house is right on the border probably partly in Pelham Manor and partly in the Bronx. Pelham Manor units were right in front of the house as they were probably called first. Access to Elmtree La is through Pelham Manor from Pelhamdale Ave to Manor Circle to Elmtree. Saw FDNY Batt 18 there. This is a money area with some large mansions.

House was a 5 or 6 bedroom home E66 came in via shore rd. E38 came via pelham. Bn 20 was on another box as was L-39. E-38 used pelham hydrants to supply handlines, E-66 was blocked out by pelham but they had 1st line from E-38.

Interesting area in that back in 1973 I was an acting mgr/postmaster of City Island post office. One of the chores for the the mgr/postmaster was to go out in a station wagon and deliver mail to some well known "Bronx" VIP's, judges and politicians who had homes along Shore Rd. but wanted to maintain Bronx residency.

I had heard a long time ago that small area was annexed into the Bronx because of what Gman says. The water mains and hydrants up there are Pelham Manors.

If you map it, Elm Tree Lane is entirely within Westchester County, but the county line goes right thru the front yards of the houses along the lane. The houses are in the Bronx but the street in front of them is in Westchester.

Box 4507 (Elm Tree Lane at Forest Rd) is a Bronx box:

66 38 63    61  51  39  BN 15

Box 4508 is also a Bn 15 assignment. The rest of the 4500's are Bn 20. Everything above 4521 is on City Island.

Wonder how many times those boxes have come in over the years?

I would think the response time would have to be in the neighborhood of 10 minutes to get up there.
