164's first due box.  Huguenot and Drumgoole Rd West is next corner from firehouse, couple of hundred feet..  Drumgoole Rd East is other side of overpass of for parkway, another 300'.  168 3rd due behind 167.

Prayers for all involved the injuries are not serious!

If BN 23 was responding to a boat fire on the Arthur Kill, most South Shore companies may have been assigned on that box - maybe E 168/E 164/E 151/L 84/L76.  Ladder 84 may not have been assigned or may have been redirected?  Long run for Rescue 5.  Entire South Shore of SI is covered by only 4 firehouses.

It takes a while for the 23rd to respond to Huguenot location of incident from Great Kills.  Units responding to boat fire would probably not be close to Huguenot and Drumgoole. Engine 162 might have been closest engine available.

Hope injuries are minor for all involved.

23rd Bn probably would have responded to reported boat fire off Arthur Kill Rd, south on Hylan Blvd, then up Huguenot Avenue to Arthur Kill Rd (specific location of reported boat is unknown).  Intersection of Huguenot Ave and Drumgoole Rd has a light. Drumgoole Rd is the service road adjacent to the Korean Veterans Parkway with an on-ramp just past the light.  Ladder 84 may have been the 2nd due truck on the boat fire the 23rd Bn was responding to.  SI traffic is difficult, especially on a Saturday.

The location years back was Drumgoole Blvd and Huguenot Avenue - a light with very little traffic.  Drumgoole Blvd was a divided roadway that ran from Arthur Kill Road (by Outerbridge Crossing) to Arthur Kill Road (by Al Deppes and Richmond Ave).  Engine 164 and Ladder 84 were located on Carlton Ave off Huguenot Ave - a narrow, wooded street

This is what Carlton Avenue looked like during brush fire seasons in the 1960s and 1970s when E 164/L 84 firehouse was main staging area for relocated Brooklyn and Manhattan companies:

Note: Pictures were taken after Carlton Avenue was widened for parkway.

Engine 167/Ladder 87 and Engine 168 firehouses were not built yet and Engine 164 and Ladder 84 responded from Great Kills to Tottenville as 1st or 2nd due companies.

Wonder what the turn out of the report of Fire was. Hoping for a speedy recovery to the members of the 23 BC and other vehicle. This accident site is only a few blocks away from me - it does get congested. People fly down Drumgoole as Mack said it is the service road parallel to the highway. If 164/84 were in quarters they?d be onscene within seconds but if they were already a nice distance to the boat fire, they?d have to book it back to the MVA.
