FDNY Alerts - 169 Malone Ave. All Hands Fire in private dwelling under control. Exterior fir in rear of address.

The FDNY extinguished a fire at a home in Oakwood with no injuries reported early on Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 12:28 a.m. for 169 Malone Ave. near Hylan Blvd., according to a spokesman for the FDNY.

About 12 units and 60 members brought the “all-hands” blaze under control at 12:43 a.m.

Anyone know why Richmond Engine 1 wouldn't get a call to respond here? They could get there just as fast as 165/85 and they're closer than E159. It seems like they never get any runs when they're closer than other companies. They dispatched E151 on the 2nd alarm when my sister's house was on fire from Tottenville to GK. Wouldn't it make more sense to dispatch E1 on jobs like these instead of pulling resources from across the island? I'm just wondering why the FDNY doesn't use this engine to avoid sending units further away. I guess I've been living in NJ too long now I'm used to seeing the volunteer companies.

Depends on a lot of factors I’d imagine. They aren’t staffed 24/7 and this job came in after midnight. While they’re a bit closer than E159, by the time it takes Richmond Engine to staff itself and respond I’m sure a majority of the 10-75 FDNY assignment would be on scene already. And of course being they are Volunteer and not FDNY I’m sure the city department gets “first dibs” over them. Only fires I’d be surprised to NOT see them at would be any fire in their immediate first due area of Richmondtown. Even then 165/85 are not far away down Richmond Road from them. I’m no expert, but I think all these factors plus many more go into whether or not Richmond Engine responds to a structure fire. I know they operate at many brush fires on the island.
