10/6/2011 Connecticut Firefighters Hurt in Cliff Rescue

Squad 1 and E-8 EM-1 and C-33 on scene at East Rock park near the Hamden line for reported climber stuck on the rocks. Caller states they can see the dam near the town line.
C-32 requesting Squad -2 to respond along with NHPD.
Updated location East rock rd and English Dr 15:40
Per C-32 Operations to switch to Ch-2 15:42
Dispatch on the line with the caller stating she is tired and has no way to sit down and when she moves the rocks are unstable .15:45
Squad-1 has a visual on the subject stating she is mid way up from there point . C-36 on scene. 15:47
TRuck -3 enroute for manpower15:49
per Comms Caller having problems keeping a grip on her holds to the rock face . 15:55
Crews trying to reach the Party from below and setting up to lower down from above. 15:57

Member From SQ-1 Slipped and fell reporting he has ankle injury16:00
Member being lowered to victim .16:03
Stokes requested for injured member .16:04
C-31 on scene , FF with injuried FF requesting stokes to start from the bottom which ever gets there first gets the job Per -31 lots of loose shale.16:05
Heads up below due to falling rock from above 16:05
rescuer over the edge being lowered P-31 requsting additional Engine Company For Manpower.
Per-31 about 10ft from victim. 16:08

Lowering rope stuck in a crevice 2nd member being ready to be lowered to free rope 16:11

Lots of loose rock dropping on the members below 16:15
member making move towards victim to secure her .16:17
Rescue ff trying to climb up towards victim. C-31 requesting that ff be hauled up towards victim.16:19
requesting topside to haul ff up towards victim. rescue ff stating he is all most near her , trying 1 more try to reach her stating she is very tired 16:20
Crew with Injured member states he is almost packaged and ready to be moved 16:21
rescue ff trying to make contact with victim to hold her in place 16:22
2nd ff over the edge to assist .16:25
2ff has visual with the victim gonna take some to get to her .16:28.
per-31 2nd ff to make contact to secure victim then they will remove injured ff 16:30
per-31 trk -3 to remove injured ff , C-36 to hold his position . victim in a crevice making it hard to each her.16:33
C-31 requesting another Emergency unit to the scene .16:37
lowering the blue line ff 16:38
ff requesting a little faster on the blue line 16:38
Units operating for at least 1 hour

Contact made with victim placing her into a pick off harness to be lowered down when ready on the white line .16:46
Primary FF has victim c-36 calling for them to be lowered nice and slow and controlled 16;47
C-36 on blue line calling to be lowered also 16:48
c-36 requesting blue line to be lowered a little faster 16:49
lower slow on both lines about 20ft to the bottom 16:50
Victim on the ground 16:51. Holding thier position at this time 16:52

Firehouse had an article on this job. My personal opinion: You got your sorry ass up there, get your sorry ass down. This is why fire departments do not respond to cats in trees. One chief said he never found cat skeletons on the ground after receiving a call for Fluffy stuck. If a damn cat can figure how to get its butt down, how about a "intelligent?" person. If it is illegal to climb these rocks I hope the injured member finds the best available lawyer to litigate.

Those New Haven, Ct Firefighters sure did a Great job getting this UN-GREATFUL young lady off of a very, very dangerous situtation. Those New Haven Firefighters sure took some serious risk.
