10-60 Process?

I’m curious as to what the 10-60 process is, and I hope someone here can answer that for me.

From what I’ve seen in other threads, dispatchers aren’t allowed to transmit the 10-60, but they can load up the box. If a collapse call was received in Manhattan, theoretically below 125th, would the dispatcher load the box or make it a collapse matrix, then the first-due unit makes the call for a 10-60?

I know I must be spouting nonsense, but I want to double-check my limited understanding by providing a scenario and using what I know, then being corrected later.

Loaded box/collapse matrix(?)
\/
10-60 No-Code transmitted by first-due unit
\/
Fallback Step-2/3 transmitted for Borough(?)
\/
10-60 Code-1 transmitted by first-due chief(?)
\/
10-60 Code-2 transmitted by staff chief(?)

The Dispatcher is the Incident Commander until units arrive on scene, and thus can really send whatever he wants to. (Although you will almost never see a Dispatcher do this.)

I'm not aware of a 10-60 C2? If it does exist, you dont need to be a staff chief or even a chief to transmit it, same thing with the 60C1/

From what I know, there’s the 10-60 no-code (initial assignment), the 10-60 code-1 (enhanced technical rescue resources required) and 10-60 code-2 (enhance technical rescue resources, large-scale, enhanced 2-2 matrix assignment(?)). I’m not entirely sure if 10-60c2 exists due to many sources contradicting others, but I’d like to make sure.

I was going off the assumption that, by the time a 10-60c2 would need to be transmitted (if it exists), a staff chief would be present to make the call or would be the only one present with the authority to make such a decision compared to the lower level 10-60nc and 10-60c1.

Thanks for replying and have a good day or night!

Anybody can transmit pretty much anything. If im responding to somthing an a sky scrapper collapses im not gonna just call a 10-60 NC. If I think I need those units, I will get those units until someone higher then me in the CoC decides what units are not needed and will have them returned. Better to have them and not need them and need them and not have them.

there’s no 10-60 code 2 anymore.
Just the no code & code 1.
The no code is essentially an enhanced 10-75 with the major tech response.
The code 1 is the enhanced 2-2.

If there was a report of a building collapse, we would put out the major.
The first due unit or BC can transmit whichever signal he deems necessary

I have a question about this if those in the know don’t mind.
If a major matrix is assigned and then a 10-60 transmitted is the dispatch a FULL 10-60 or is the major matrix just “beefed up” to a 10-60?

I assume it would be handled the same as a "box getting loaded up for numerous calls" then the 10-75 is transmitted

Major matrix response doesn’t get everything on the 10-60. Just like loading up the box doesn’t get everything on the 10-75.

If I have a Major Matrix Response already, and I give the 10-60, I am getting whatever units I dont already have on the Major Matrix. Same thing with any other Response, if I have a 10-30, and I give the 10-75 I am getting my FAST Truck, Battalion, Division and RAC. If I just have a normal phone alarm response (3 Engines, 2 Trucks) I will be getting another Engine, the FAST Truck, Battalion, Division, Rescue, Squad and RAC.

Entering the radio signal 10-60 causes the computer to fill out the assignment to the proper level and also generates notifications that have to be made. It also calls attention to the incident on monitor screen throughout system. Most important it makes an entry in the incident history recording the time that the signal was transmitted and who was assigned.

The SOC Major Response Matrix was established to try and cover any and all type of situations, but remember that you are talking about NYC and as the old TV program Naked City said "There are 8, million stories in the Naked City" and we have no idea what tomorrow will bring. The dispatching force has to be flexible in the assignment of units because they can run out of certain types of units quickly.

As the old say goes "Rules are make to be broken!" Just make sure you are breaken the rules at the correct time.

Yeah I understand that. My question was if you have a major and a 10-60 is transmitted is it “filled” to a 10-60 or is it a full 10-60 in addition to the major matrix. Others have answered indicating it is filled to a 10-60

The answer to your question on the 10-60 is to fill the assignment. I spent the day researching the topic since been retired
for a few years and was not 100% sure that the policy was changed.
