There are a few old "Queen Anne" type homes right in that area.

You are absolutely right - when I was a young lad there were scores of them on Sanford Avenue and 41st Avenue that were torn down in the late 50's and early 60's to make room for post war apartment buildings. They were beautiful homes on very valuable real estate.
