Im not FDNY, and am a couple of breast strokes and a quick breather, and a couple more strokes,  across the atlantic, i do however have a passion for NYC, and thats where my passion lies, with a wonderfull and historic vibrant city, with so much to offer on every street corner, and its people are great.

I have an interest in the Fire service, i have served in it since 1997, and gone onto specialist roles within this fantastic profession. One thing i have learnt, is wherever you go in the world, despite language and culteral differences, firemen are pretty much the same breed, who can understand each other, have a common respect, a simmilar outview on life in general, and can share a beer or whatever with a complete stranger, just because he happens also to be a 'firefighter', and you know what, i love that.

When i met my wife, she was a control room operator for the fire and rescue service or 'dispatcher', (or glorified telephonist as i liked to say ;D!!!), she now has moved onto to more homely efforts, so ive pretty much been involved in the job extensively my adult life, (apart from my van driving sideline, and my reserve forces commitment ;)), from this, and my visits to NYC, and through doing the tunnel to towers run ( i really need to be sober when i do this next year!!),  i have met FDNY members, been invited for beers with them (always took up that offer!!) and invited to ride with them on their rigs (sometimes i took up that offer, other times i went for a beer instead ::)!!!)

This site serves those around the world, like me, who want to know what is going in within the FDNY and NYC.

The FDNY is very precise in its operations, and has it down to an almost exact science, so the information on this website such also reflect that, and the members of this site take pride in been able to provide that information either from their own knowledge, or fromt he information sources across the website and indeed on this website, so its not unreasonable for the members to expect others to do the same, and if they cant, then either dont post, or go.

Everyone starts out a bit unsure or without the knowledge, info or understanding of how FDNY operates, however one is expected to learn, pick it up, as it is supposed to be your interest after all, and take pride in the organisation you follow the activities of.

Accordingly, lets not forget, this is not an FDNY official forum or official website, its an open, public forum for us all, and is not subject to FDNY restrictions or limitations, only those laid down by the moderators, who should step in when the need arises, as it seems to be heading too now.

Sohotrucking, you are obviously a young guy, who just wants to get involved and do his bit, use the info on here and elsewhere to your advantage, no other FD has so much info available on the internet than the FDNY, its there for you mate, use it. Take critisism on the chin, as i did when i was pulled up for my comments about you a couple of weeks ago, learn mate, and enjoy it.

If your going to use an FDNY tag, have respect for that organisation and the company you have above every post you make, and do not diss or slag off FDNY members, you will not make friends here by doing that.

Like everything else in life 'just find the balance'...

You're right J.T. We have a lot more going for us that a few insignificant postings. And I've been a part of it. I have a lot of respect for the members on this site. I know many. I sure enjoy it and have learned a lot from the postings.
By the way "Rodent251", its Great to have you as a member from one of the Busiest and Largest Fire Depts from across the Big Pond. You certainly have my respect. As a Firefighter in my small 60 man Dept, I worked with a guy we called J.T. We were referred to as the "Dynimac Duo". (Batman and Robin, from a TV show many years ago, here in the U.S.).
And just think, if my friend "mikeindabronx" didn't start this, none of this would have ever happened. (Sorry Mike). And you can sure tell that G-man put some thought into his most recent posting, above. Like I said, we learn a lot on here. (Sorry Tom, "G-man", I could resist)
