No tillers on Staten Island. I know the island is mostly open and there isn't much of a need, but what about this area? I know for sure the Westerliegh area (163/83) has extremely tight and narrow streets - especially off of Manor Road right by their firehouse. That area should have a tiller instead of a regular RM. Couldn't help but think how 83 truck fits down some of those blocks - let alone an AH response.

Yes, Rosebank, Grasmere, South Beach, and most of the North Shore have old streets that were originally designed for horse drawn carriages. Even a main drag like Clove Rd. from Forest Ave. to Richmond Terrace in West Brighton is a narrow 2 lane road. ;)

A lot of the newer developments of townhouses built through SI the last 25 years have narrow streets, limited access, congested parking.

Mack you are, as always, 100% correct. On more than one occasion an EMS bus was at a job in one of these townhouse developments and the doorbell to the patient's home was ringing with a motorist inquiring in a belligerent way just how long was that ambulance going to be there.

Pictures are from SILIVE

Neighbors notice flames shooting out windows, force entry into house and rescue elderly couple before FD arrives. Article:

Memory, that doesn't surprise me haha. What are the odds of the dept. making 83 a tiller, are there any odds at all? The situation at hand probably isn't as bad as I'm making it sound but with Mack being correct on the increasing number of housing developments and such going up, on top of the already old and narrow streets in the area, I don't think it would be such a far fetched idea to consider it. Just makes the job of the LCC, and the ECC for that matter even tougher in those areas. Now the dept. making 83 truck a TDA and creating a new firehouse or Battalion in the SI mall area (where the AH job was 2 days ago) - imagine that...
