Always wondered. Does the Con Ed Vac Truck have lights and sirens when responding, an escort or do they just respond following red lights and traffic law?

With E274 assigned, I would think HM1 & HMB would respond, but they may have been tied up at the 10-77 2nd alarm. I only caught parts of it here and there.

From the FDNY Facebook page:

Our units responded at approximately nine o’clock this morning to a report of a worker trapped in a trench. The worker was trapped from the knees down due to the trench and shoring material collapsing. Our Special Operations units started securing the trench making it safe for us to work. We were able to put our specially trained FDNY Rescue Paramedics into the trench in order to give the individual pain medication. One of the things that’s important at an operation like this is to be patient to ensure we are operating safely. Our Firefighters and Paramedics reassured this individual that we were going to get him out. After about two hours of working we were able to free the worker. This was a very labor-intensive operation, we had approximately 20 units and 100 Firefighters and EMS personal on scene. We had great cooperation between our Special Operations units, EMS and Con Edison. The worker was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition,” said FDNY Deputy Chief Michael Brown from the scene of this morning’s trench rescue at 5605 Mosholu Avenue in the Bronx.!.jpg!!.jpg!!!.jpg
