10/14/10 County Antrim:
A firefighter was injured after his fire appliance was attacked by a mob of stone-throwing youths in Antrim. The Fire Service was responding to reports of a grass fire, but found that a burning bin had been pushed against the wall of Stiles Community Centre.
Firefighters battled the blaze despite being repeatedly pelted with stones and after eventually managing to put it out, they withdrew. The injured firefighter is currently being assessed in hospital. Station commander Keith Black said that the damage to the fire appliance meant cover was now reduced.
He added: "We have resilience for this sort of thing but we do not have a spare fire appliance sitting at the back of the fire station. "I would ask everyone that, rather than throwing stones at fire engines, they should come and talk to us if they have any issues with us."
10/15/10 County Tyrone:
Firefighters en-route to a report of a house on fire on the Old Caulfield Road, Dungannon were attacked by stone throwing youths close to the Fairmount Park area of the town just after 8.00pm on Friday night.
Fortunately no damage or injuries were sustained in the attack and crews were able to continue to the incident and deal with a small fire involving a meter box in a private bungalow.
10/15/10 Dublin:
On Friday night last a Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance was surrounded by a large group. The Firefighter/Paramedics were locked in the back while the Ambulance was attacked from outside by the large group. Both members luckily were unharmed.
10/22/10 Dublin:
Firefighters were attacked with "stones, bottles and bricks" as they attempted to put out a blaze in Finglas on Thursday night 21/10/10. The members of Dublin Fire Brigade had gone to the Fairlawn estate after receiving complaints about a bonfire.
However, as they were preparing to tackle the burning pile, their fire tender came under a hail of missiles thrown by a gang of youths. The front windscreen of the vehicle was smashed. A spokesman said, from now on, crews will not go on call-outs to bonfires unless accompanied by Gardai (Police). The fire appliance had to be taken off the road. Luckily, the Firefighters escaped being hurt.
