Thanks Deano, "vbcapt" on those stats for the V.B. F.D. I think you said you are a Paramedic/Captain on Engine 9 right ? Also do the two Squads (3 and 10) operate similiar to the FDNY Squads ? How many Paramedic Engines are there ?

What kind of runs does VBFD go on?  Do they respond to all EMS runs or only high priority runs?  Also, do you have a link to a good website for VBFD?

Bill: Yes Capt/Paramedic however, I'm at Engine 8. Ladder 8 ( a Tower Ladder) also runs out of the same house which commanded by the Ladder Capts. Our Squads do not operate like FDNY Squads. Our terminology hasn't caught up with mainstream FD thinking as of yet. Our Squads are really Rescues. One day the lightbulb will come on.

During any given tour there are at least 10 or more Paramedic apparatus (this number is growing). A combination of Engines/Ladders/Squads. All apparatus are Paramedic equipped along with the normal compliment of Basic Life Support gear. Some of our Fire/Medics are RSI certified and are able to paralyze patients in the field in order to intubate. Out of 440 members, over 100 are Medics. At this time we do not staff ambulances on any routine basis however, we do when they arrive on scene understaffed (1 person)

rat pack: probably the best link is: www.vbfd.com
We respond right out of the gate on ALL cardiac arrests, gunshots and other very serious EMS runs. We'll also respond initially when Paramedic service by EMS is overwhelmed. Chest pains, breathing difficulties, altered LOC we respond when closer by time/distance than an ambulance. During heavy workloads/system overload (which seems to be close to everyday) we are sent on everything down to the lowest priority run type: minor illnesses/injuries, medical alarms, lift assists a.k.a "i've fallen & I can't get up!"

Are your tankers manned or cross staffed by an Enging Company? Thank you for the info

Thanks Deano for the info I asked about.
Also, good to hear from my good buddy "RATPACK". He's a good guy and into the job. "Broke the kid in right when he started buffing Da Bronx with me years ago". Certainly the right place to learn. It show's because now he's a "Louie" on a busy rig in Ct. "Very Proud of him".
