"FDNY793727", thank you for that excellent rundown. And "raybrag" thank you for posting that picture. Seeing that, we can all understand why the Third Alarm was transmitted.

And once again, it shows the diversity of fire activity that the FDNY faces. From Brush Fires to High Rise Building Fires. So, if anybody here wants to learn about fighting brush fires, you don't have to make the trip to L.A. County, Calif. Just wait your time and you can save yourself the expense of making the trip.

If I remember correctly, the FDNY considers their brush fire season from March 15 - April 30th. And again from October 15 - November 30th. Last I knew, some of the BFUs were manned during that time.

An tough brush fire in the Bronx a few days earlier. A major building explosion a few days ago, besides the numerous 10-75s throughout the city. If anybody wants to learn the operations of a major league fire department, in my opinion, "its the place to be".

Well said nfd, just to add onto what you said about brushfire season: it is within that time frame for the most part, easily tagged as the whole spring season. Although these types of fires are mostly reserved for this time, every so often you will see one in he middle of dec.-jan. Lol. Most common areas for brush fires are SI(Gateway Nat'l Park, Oakwood Beach, Ocean Breeze), and Brooklyn(Near FBF, Gerristen Beach, areas off the belt). The Bronx too flares up near Pelham park, and obviously Queens. One thing these areas all have in common is that they have cattail. Cattail is that long tall corn stalk looking type of weed that is super dry. It looks like a "cat tail" at the tip. When these go up, there's not much you can do especially with the wind. This is what was burning at the AH yesterday on SI by the shore. Another good example is that 6 alarm brush fire back on Easter Sunday of 2009. Occurred in Great Kills park on SI, cat tails and other brush were burning - hundreds of acres. And to add onto it, it was right next to the water of Great Kills Harbor. The winds were unimaginable. The pics looked like flames were 50-60ft high smoke could be seen from Breezy Point and even Sandy Hook, NJ.
Just alittle brush fire info - it's that time of year again!
