Sounds a little strange, companies were already 10-84 at 4:13 (ladder company 147 gave 10-84 over the radio) and no one called the 10-75 prior to the battalion chief ? wasn't it pretty obvious ?

They may have just jumped off the rig to go to work instead of waiting for clear air on the radio.

Assuming that it wasn’t given by first due , next arriving units may have thought it already was.
Can’t always hear radio transmissions , in the midst of turning a corner into chaos.
Things may sometimes seem strange to you , when they really are not.

All valid points, but part of the 10-75 transmission is the description of the fire building, which is helpful to all units coming in.

Hey...I'm writing in response to 1951Truck post. Maybe, the first due company did or did not transmit the 10-75. or as you put it "wasn't it pretty obvious". There could have been numerous reasons why they didn't It's 0400hours, the box is being filled out, reports of people trapped, heavy fire on arrival, positioning the rig.. or like twoteamtease said in his post! BUT if you weren't in their shoes at that time, how can you second guess them! Trust me, unless you've been in that situation, you will NEVER understand it and if you have been ,you never would have said it was "pretty obvious" Sitting at your computer and looking at the run down of the companies, and the times and comparing times and radio codes is nothing like the fire ground. NOW...., that's pretty obvious!! So in summary, the fire was extinguished, a civilian was rescued, a mayday was resolved, and our brothers and sisters got to go home. Sounds like a win to me! In keeping in the theme of March madness, NO HARM, NO FOUL.!!
PS the 48 transmitted the 10-75 anyway, so what's the big deal

The "urgent" transmission is used to stop all BS transmissions and unit with the urgent to go ahead with their message. Of course this is not knowing the circumstances upon arrival at the scene.
