I was on the bus when this happened and we had to take a detour. The bus driver was told it was a fire. Were any FF's hurt badly? and will L81 just receive a long term spare until the new Ferrara is delivered? (the only reason im asking is because i dont know how cost and moral effective it would be to return an 12 year old truck to service after a fatal accident)

This is not a scenario where the status of the vehicle is of prime concern. The well being of all of those directly involved both physically and mentally is what matters most. Conolences and prayers for the gentleman who was fatally injured as well as prayers for those injured for a speedy and complete recovery. Most of all, peace for the operators of both vehicles. The replacement of the vehicle is a moot point at this time.

Very sad and tragic situation. An accident, no matter how small is a scary thing. The larger an accident is, the more traumatic of an event and tougher the mental effects will be. I just hope all involved have a speedy recovery, both physically and mentally. One like this will take a while though for those involved, especially the vehicle operators.

I'm going to agree with MM here. I doubt that's the concern. PS, I saw the rig being towed on the BQE as I was going into work, under NYPD escort. You're not going to see that rig back out on the street anytime soon, if ever again.
