At approximately 0130 on Monday, May 30 FDNY Marine Company 6 was dispatched to a report of a person in the water off of Pier 5 in the area of Brooklyn Bridge Park. While in route Firefighter Landon donned his water rescue suit. Approximately 25 minutes into the search Firefighter Landon spotted a victim under the pier, exhausted and struggling to stay afloat. Firefighter Landon notified Captain Guzzo, the Marine 6 Officer, that he was ready to go and was properly tethered by Firefighter Gemmell. Firefighter Landon then entered the water and swam approximately 50 feet to the victim through the darkness and poor visibility. He then was able to tether the victim, and both were pulled back to Marine 6. The victim was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
