5/31/2017 All Hands Staten Island Box 891

Maybe:

E 160, 153, 155, 152 L 77. 78
FAST L 83
R 5
S 1
BC 21, 22
DC 8

A very difficult place to get to; narrow, winding roads on top of a very high hill.  In fact, I'd be curious to know about water supply and pressure that high up.

E160 first due box, E153 & TL77 have one hell of climb up any street to reach that. In fact, climbing up single lane, steep, narrow and winding Hillside is scary in a regular car so you can imagine a tower ladder.

Do you think they might even go around the hill and then go up Howard?  Like you say, Hillside is scary in a regular car and I wonder if apparatus could make it if they met a car going down Hillside.

I live practically next to E160/R5 and that's exactly what I meant to suggest. Anybody not familiar with the terrain there, going "As the crow flies" would find themselves delayed or even stuck.  ;)

Just goes to prove...great minds think alike!

I've only been to Staten Island a few times so I'm not too familiar with the streets there. Once to see G-mans very impressive, custom made, model fire truck collection, and once a group get together of members a few years ago.

But I sometimes visit a friend in Yonkers where some of those streets can be very tough to get a fire truck into or operate too. A lot of hills and narrow streets.

When I told a friend there (in Yonkers), "it must be tough getting those rigs in here", he said; "Staten Island has a lot of streets like that too". I really didn't know that.

I went to Wagner College a long time ago and had off-campus housing at 830 Howard Avenue; this was almost at the bottom of the hill.  We had to climb it every day for classes.

Location vicinity of college between many firehouses but Grymes Hill is a tough climb.  St Johns used to location of Wagner College.

Now you know why Engine 160's nickname is: "THE HILLBILLIES" ;) BTW, Those hills proved to be an excellent test platform for the first Ferrara Rescue that was assigned to Rescue 5. If you can recall, there were a few issues with acceleration and tracking.

You know SI Gman.  Todt Hill, Emerson Hill, Grymes Hill and Light House Hill have tough climbs, narrow winding roads, large homes, colleges, schools and are brush fire hazards.

Topography of SI is very diverse - large hills, beaches, marsh areas, small lakes, large streams.  Many large wooded parks and woodland preserves.

And stores that have a "Hot Bagels" sign out front. I think there are more in S.I. than in any other borough (LOL)

And some of the best pizza joints on the East Coast - Joe and Pats, Joey's, the Road House (Buddy-Buddy Club) and some others long gone. Also a few restaurants that would rival anything in Manhattan or anyplace else.
