Suffolk Fire/EMS had a 3rd alarm yesterday. At this time it is unclear if the fire involved several private dwellings or if it was in a commercial structure that spread to private dwellings. There were several non-life threatening firefighter injuries: burns & exhaustion type injuries. I'll make every attempt to get a rundown and accurate information for everyone in the next few days.

126 Franklin St.
Between: Bank St. & East Washington St.
Fire in a Private Dwelling

Time of alarm: 6-24-09 @ 1725
Run closed out: 6-25-09 @ 1829

Responding apparatus:

Engs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 25, 27

Lads: 3, 5, Aerial Platform 1

Rescues: 1, 2

Medics: 2, 3, 10, EMS2

Bats: 1, 2

Misc: Car2, Rehab1, Utility1, Training3, Fire Marshals1, 4, 6

**There were 5 firefighter injuries with burns & heat exhaustion, none serious. One Engine suffered damage from radiant heat. First units were on scene in 3 minutes. Exp A: street, Exp B: similar detached, Exp C: yard, Exp D: similar detached. The neighborhood consists of very old 2-3 story private dwellings that were constructed close together. The original fire building was a total loss. Exp. B & D suffered severe damage & I believe were torn down.

As far as Fire is concerned I think they have a couple but, I'm not really sure. There's one volunteer EMS agency remaining, Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer EMS. There used to be another one called Bennett's Creek Volunteer EMS however, they had some issues which caused them to no longer exist.

Yeah I moved back to NJ in 2001, at that time Va Bch, Hampton, and Suffolk had vollies. I tried to get on Hampton, everytime I would get to the point of going back to fire school, since Va didn't accept NJ Firefighter 1, my ship would deploy, or something else would prevent me.
