First due E-81 OOS Medicals, First due Truck L-46 relocated to L-53 due to them having Education Day. That is why only 2 & 1 until 2nd source. Also L-37 at rock for AM training, Bronx CO not what it used to be by relocating L-46 and leaving firehouse unstaffed until fire occurred. And yes phone calls were made but relocation still happened..................

I have been listening to bronx for a few hours this morning, and it seems that Sq61 and R3 cover some mileage on runs, from a car in the water on the bronx River Parkway this morning, a couople of other local runs for Sq61 to the All-hands way over on the other side of the Bronx.

It seems that R3 is suitably quatered and located centrally to respond around the bronx, but Sq61 is on one side of the Brough, with a vast number of its working fires on the opposing end of the bronx in 75's area and surrounding areas and houses first due boxes.

How long would it take Sq 61 to respond from thier own area to the box this morning? I dont know the nature of the roads, hills, congestion, or do they stick to the cross Bronx and simmilar freeway routes to get across the borough?

Simmilarly, i have heard R3 on the GWB, going into NJ to get back to NYC, then travelling up to Wakefield for a 10-75 then later in the shift on the parkway heading into queens for MVA's on the bridge, i dont think many other SOC units cover such a wide diversity or areas an runs as these two units. Prob maybe R2 is the closest, im only guessing as i am an 8 hour flight time away on the south coast of the UK!!!

Rescue 3 has the whole Bronx and upper Manhattan for responses and of course can be used city wide if needed, Sq61 has certain Battalions for 10-75 responses most of which are in the 7th division. But when other Squads are out they too go city wide

Williamsbridge Rd to Pelham Pkwy to Fordham rd then Kinsbridge, all wide streets and depending on traffic you can make good time. Depends on who's driving.

Kingsbridge (sp)  I can't believe the Dispatchers would leave 81/46 uncovered. Its a long run up to Riverdale to the 52's for 95/36 or 79/37

well they did leave 81/46 uncovered and like i said they wouldnt change the relocation, fortunately no life loss or injury at 3384, also i think there is an Engine up there now.

Dispatcher have less choices because they get their balls broken if they relocate a company that has B.I. Staff more worried about B.I. than fire protection.

if its any consolation, over here in the London Fire Brigade, we have what we call HFSV,s, home fire safety visits, which is an attempt to visit a dwelling, and place a free smoke alarm in the household, and do a basic check on their electrics, such as overloading of plug sockets and methods/habits of cooking etc etc, we have to do on average 2-3 of these a day in London, the appliance stays on the run, available for calls, but HFSV take presidence over training, we basically get very limited training done nowadays, this is meant to be offset be what we call 'strategic resource' days, wherebye an appliance, or in some cases a while station will come 'off the run', unnavailable for fire calls from about 10am until 4pm once a month, there is hardly ever any structured training or visits organised as we are just too big a service, 112 fully staffed full time stations, we cover London heathrow and all the run down multiculteral housing estates an major motorways into London from the west, including the M25, and at times we have no cover or standbye (relocation) appliance the whole day, we think its a undercover method of the poloticiains to see how they can cover areas and cope with minimal fire cover.

I have known of three occasions where savable lives have been lost due to responding crews coming from too far away, due to local machines an stations been off the run, this also includes, through no fault of the responding long distance travelling crews not having any idea where they are going an relying on the OIC reading from a map book bouncing around in the front of the cab on a shout!! We are shortly going over to GPS and updated MDT's, but you cannot replace good old local knowledge and local stations bene on the run by any form of technology!!

Just to let you guys know, you are not the only ones trying to make the best of a shitty stick an fighting 'suits' to get our job done..im with you on that one..

regards

Jarrod

B I means???????

BI means Building Inspection Safety Program formerly known as AFID Apparatus Field Inspection Duty. When unit has BISP they are not to be relocated unless a major incident occurs.
