An Urgent is not necessary unless you have other units transmitting and you have to get your message through.. No need for it when there is not a peep on the radio.

Technically, you are wrong, but it doesn't seem like there is a need when there is no radio traffic.

Here's my point.....dispatchers pretty much know when it sounds like a fire....they are waiting anxiously for the first due unit to radio them.  IDK.....I never gave one and don't think it ever effected the outcome

dispatchers will dispatch full assignments when they have multiple calls, or sounds like work, but that is the minority of actual jobs. You get one call and no further info... pull up and its going. They have plenty of other alarms out for other emergencies that one call, especially in certain areas, won't make any of us think it's legit.

Types of Urgent Radio Messages
A. Second or greater alarms
B. Calls for additional companies, ambulances, special units, or "10-75"
C. Dispatcher?s orders to units away from quarters to respond to alarms
D. Deployment of units or important messages to units at fire or emergency operations
E.  Report of apparatus breakdown while unit is responding to alarm
F.  Transmission of alarms, and broadcast of address of fire
G. Report that unit has stopped to extinguish fire while responding to another alarm
H. Signal 10-70

I will add one more Urgent from the above list that i as a BC used several times in the past (before it was a mandatory 3&2) & my ticket had only 1 Truck on it....if someone was on the radio w/somewhat routine traffic i gave an Urgent to get through & request the assignment of a 2nd Truck....the reason being was that i had already lost the time it took to get to the BN Rig & have the radio key up after it was started & i felt it was Urgent to get them started out especially not knowing how close the next assigned Truck might be.
