Why did 241 get relocated to squad 8 instead of another squad? Would they only respond to squad 8s first due boxes?

Before SQ-8 was established, did 10-75s on SI require a squad? If so, did one have to come from Brooklyn or did E-165 ever fill that roll?

Before R*5 was organized R*2 responded to Third Alarms (or earlier by Special Call) thru out SI......also before Haz Mat*1 we covered all of SI for Haz Mat incidents.....we also responded to SI for all "man under" runs on the SIRT tracks as well as other serious vehicle or construction accidents or Ship Fires.

Rescue 5 was first organized1948 at E 155/L 78 14 Brighton Ave.

Rescue 5 was staffed by L 78 members. If L 78 had a run, a FF stayed back to drive Rescue apparatus if a run came in for Rescue 5. L 78 was always staffed with an extra FF. The rescue rig would be driven to the operating location of L 78, pick up L 78 members, and then respond to Rescue 5 run location. Another truck company would replace L 78 at original incident.

L 78 did not respond to multiples or special calls out of 1st alarm response area for that reason. Rescue 5 operated that way until disbanded in 1962 after VN Bridge was built and Rescue 2 could cover SI.

This is great info!

Speaking of long drives for squads. Did SQ-8 pick up any boxes in south BK from SSQ-1 (basically the same territory that R-5 has)?

Would there every be a 9th squad added for south BK?

SQ1 for the most part gets to South BK with no problem, jump on the BQE Southbound from their area. Furthest south areas of BK for them include Coney Island, sometimes I’ve seen them get turned around 10-8 before they got there but that’s the case with any special unit. Rescue 5 is closer to those South BK boxes, they’re not far from the VN Bridge at all so they get to Coney Island and South BK before SQ1.

The issue was them going to SI, especially southern SI boxes. The need was there for another Squad indeed.
